These 16 paid 5 week summer placements in General Practice (GP) are an opportunity for 3rd year MPharm students to increase your awareness of primary care careers, increase your understanding of the role of clinical pharmacists in GP and community, increase your understanding of cross-sector and MDT working, have an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge and increase your understanding of foundation placement opportunities in GP and community in the South West. Successful students will attend an online induction day and wrap-up event with the HEE South GP FtP Team where they will deliver a presentation of a completed audit project.

Summer placements in North Bristol are an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of what the role of a hospital pharmacist entails. Experience various specialist areas, spend time with current foundation trainee pharmacists and visit wards . There is an opportunity to gain audit experience. Applicants require good communication skills , should be enthusiastic, proactive, hardworking, accurate, methodical and trustworthy. Students must have the ability to work as part of a team and also use own initiative as part of the defined role. There is hospital accommodation available for these unpaid placements (also plenty of rooms or properties to let close to the hospitals).

UHBW offers one weeks work experience shadowing pharmacists and pharmacy technicians performing medicines reconciliation, clinical duties and dispensing and supply services. Hospital accommodation may be available for these unpaid placements (there are also plenty of hotels and B&Bs in the town). If you would like to apply for a placement, please send your CV and a covering letter (max 300 words) stating why you want the placement, how the placement would benefit you and the pharmacy department and indicate which dates you would like your application to be considered.

Our trust provides tertiary and national speciality services such as paediatrics, cardiac surgery, oncology and bone marrow transplantation as well as acute services for the Bristol area. We are also a NHS Global Digital Exemplar site. Each placement will see the student accompanying pharmacy department staff members across different clinical specialities at ward/clinic level as well different sections of the department whether it is ward stock supplies, dispensary, aseptic services, radiopharmacy or medicines information. Supervising staff members may be pharmacy assistants, informatics specialists, pharmacy technicians, clinical pharmacists or prescribing pharmacists. There is no hospital accommodation for these unpaid placements. Applicants should be punctual, organised and able to start and finish a given task within an appropriate time frame. Students will be expected to be professional at all times and adhere to the trust core values.
