Programme Introduction

Dispensing and Supply of Medicines and Medicinal Products

This course is available via two routes depending on your workplace circumstances:

Credit-Bearing Route (Pearson BTEC)
The Dispensing and Supply of Medicines and Medicinal Products is Unit 5 of the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff. This nationally recognised, credit-bearing qualification was developed to support Pharmacy Support Staff in meeting the GPhC Education and Training requirements.

To register for this route, your workplace must have a qualified assessor available to support and assess your competence.

Non-Credit-Bearing Route
If your workplace does not have a qualified assessor, you can still complete this unit through our non-credit-bearing route. This route requires an educational supervisor to act as an expert witness, confirming your competence in practice.

This route still supports you in demonstrating the knowledge and skills required to meet GPhC Education and Training standards.

About Unit 5
PWDS is offering Unit 5 as a standalone unit for pharmacy support staff working in a dispensary environment for whom completion of the whole qualification may not be appropriate.

Learners on both routes will develop the knowledge and skills required to receive and process prescriptions and safely assemble, dispense and supply prescribed medicines and medicinal products.

If you wish to complete the credit-bearing route and you do not have a qualified assessor within your workplace please contact the Training Programme Director to discuss.
