PWDS is encouraging colleagues across pharmacy services, including pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, support staff, educators, managers, and leaders, to take part in the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK’s (APTUK) consultation on the proposed UK-Wide Post-Registration Career Pathway for Pharmacy Technicians. Diverse perspectives from across the workforce will help ensure the pathway reflects the needs of patients, professionals, and services now and in the future
This consultation is an important opportunity to help shape the future development of the pharmacy technician profession across the UK. The proposed pathway aims to support career progression, professional development, and the recognition of developing practice from pre-registration to enhanced throughout a pharmacy technician’s career.
Why get involved?
The consultation provides an opportunity for pharmacy professionals to influence how post-registration careers are structured and supported in the future. Your feedback can help ensure the pathway reflects the realities of practice across different sectors and settings, including community pharmacy, primary care, secondary care, mental health, and specialist services.
PWDS Regional Response
To support a coordinated regional response, PWDS will be contacting Education Programme Directors (EPDs), Clinical Pharmacy Managers, and Senior Pharmacy Managers across the region to gather views and feedback.
While a regional response will help highlight common priorities and themes, we strongly encourage individual responses to the consultation. Individual submissions ensure that personal experiences, professional perspectives, and sector-specific insights are heard directly by APTUK.
The strength of the consultation will depend on the breadth and diversity of feedback received, so every response matters.
How to Participate
The consultation document and response details can be accessed via the APTUK website:
APTUK UK-Wide Post-Registration Career Pathway for Pharmacy Technicians
Please take the time to review the proposals and submit your feedback before the consultation closes on 31st December 2026.
