Cleanroom Supervision in Pharmacy Technical Services (CSPTS)

The programme is open to applicants from licensed and unlicensed units across the United Kingdom.

The training and assessment programme has been developed for individuals who have been identified as appropriate and delegated this role by the Accountable Pharmacist or Production Manager including the following:

• Pharmacy Technicians
• Pharmacy Assistants/Pharmacy Support Workers
• Pharmacists

All technical services staff members must be given authorisation to participate in the assessment by the Accountable Pharmacist or Production Manager.

Standard operating procedures must be in place defining individual’s roles, responsibilities, and duties.

Before entry onto the programme, applicants need to fulfil the following entry criteria:

The trainee must have:

• Recommendation and support from the Chief Pharmacist (or designated
  deputy) to undertake this accreditation programme
• An accreditation from a Pre and In Process Checking Programme or equivalent experience (evidence supplied to support)
• A minimum of three to six months (depending on previous experience) aseptic preparation experience in current aseptic unit.
• Demonstrated ability to aseptically prepare products accurately according to locally approved SOPs
• Demonstration of qualities and behaviours that are necessary to perform the CSPTS role, including professionalism, accountability, accuracy, and effective communication skills
• An allocated named educational supervisor who has completed the appropriate training and been deemed suitable for the role by the CP
• Demonstrated a good working knowledge of locally approved SOPs to the Accountable Pharmacist/Production Manager or educational supervisor

The unit must be able to offer an appropriate workload to enable the trainee the opportunity to complete accreditation within at least one area needing supervision, e.g., Centralised Intravenous Additives (CIVAs), Parenteral Nutrition (PN), Cytotoxics, other Aseptically prepared products (e.g., Monoclonal Antibodies MABs), non-sterile services and Radiopharmacy in technical services.

PWDS has designed the entry requirements to ensure that the trainee CSPTS has sufficient experience and has developed attributes and attitudes to accept responsibility of the role.
