Workforce Expansion Project Cohort 5 Launch

NHS England Workforce, Training & Education South West Pharmacy & PWDS are pleased to announce the launch of Cohort 5 of the National Workforce Expansion Project.

Expressions of interest applications will be open for 54 places across the South West region from Monday 7th August 2023 until Sunday 3rd September 2023 for single sector community pharmacy or multi-sector partnerships.

How much funding is available?

  • £46,099 per IPTPT over the 2-year training period.
  • Funding is intended to contribute to the cost of developing and running a two-year work-based training programme.
  • It is recommended education costs are covered through apprenticeship levy.

What do I need to do to be eligible for funding?

  • Be able to provide educational supervision from a GPhC registered pharmacy professional.
  • Multi sector – have formed a partnership that includes a minimum of two healthcare settings, at least one of which must be responsible for delivery of day-to-day patient facing pharmacy services.
  • Complete a short on-line expression of interest with an overview of your proposed training programme. This will be used to shortlist allocation of funding.

What support is provided by NHS England WT&E Pharmacy South West & PWDS?

  • Support from a dedicated pharmacy regional facilitator to offer guidance and expertise throughout the 2-year training period.
  • Employer/system lead guidance
  • Weekly drop-in sessions throughout the application window
  • A range of resources including Educational Supervisor Handbook, examples of job adverts and training plans.
  • Support/signing posting for partnership information.

October 2023 – December 2023​Recruitment of trainees​
October 2023 – January 2024​Trainee data collection and privacy declarations completed by designated educational supervisors and trainees​
October 2023 – February 2024​Trainee begins employment, local induction​
By 29 February 2024​All trainees must be employed, enrolled with, and have started their designated learning programme​
