Reaccreditation

Introduction

Reaccreditation process for non registered pharmacy staff

Non registered pharmacy staff who hold PWDS accreditations are required to undertake the reaccreditation process at least every two years. The process is outlined in the relevant programme reaccreditation toolkit listed in the resources section of this page. The toolkits are also available via the relevant training programme pages.

For further information please e-mail the specific training programme director for the programme you will be undertaking reaccreditation for.

The following information relates to Pharmacy Technicians that have undertaken a PWDS/SWMIT training programme.

Registered pharmacy technicians  who hold PWDS accreditation, are not subject to a legally or regulatory requirement to reaccredit every 2 years once qualified.

Ongoing fitness to practice in these roles is assured through the registrants professional responsibility to maintain their competence. This can be achieved within the GPhC revalidation framework via the annual revalidation cycle.

In order to demonstrate ongoing competence we recommend that pharmacy technicians who hold a PWDS accreditation:

  • Have an up to date job description which outlines the activities that they are accredited to undertake
  • Should regularly engage with the activities in which they are accredited to undertake in order to maintain competence and confidence
  • Must always comply with their organisations governance requirements
  • Should always follow local standard operating procedures and polices
  • Should maintain a record of any errors that they make and subsequent reflections
  • Should understand and follow systems for reporting, sharing and learning from errors
  • Should complete GPhC revalidation entries annually that demonstrate that they are keeping up to date with current practice and legislative changes

For further information please e-mail the relevant training programme director.
